Design notes from the Barcelona Chair: Adrian Pearsall

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe with its Barcelona Chair, Hans Wegner with its Shell Chair, Eero Saarinen with its Tulip Chair…There are all great influences in the world of furniture and Mid Century Modern Design. But let’s find out about other voices less known in the world of modern furniture.

Adrian Pearsall, an American furniture designer, was born in Trumansburg, New York, in 1925. He was one of the earliest influences in American Modernism and introduced some interesting models, like the low sofa gondolas and some unique side tables and dining tables.

Pearsall served in the Navy from 1942 to 1950. After that, he went to the Illinois University, where he graduated in Architectural Engineering. Two years after that, he founded Craft Associates and started his career in the field of furniture. He passed away in 2011, but his legacy is still alive and its models are still popular.
