Hans Wegner Chairs: The Foldable Chair

Continuing with the reviewing of the universe of Hans Wegner chairs, let’s take a look at one of its more surprising designs: The Foldable Chair.

As its name indicates, the Foldable Chair is made with the purpose of being a portable item, for outdoor or indoor. True to its craftmanship principles, Wegner created an object beautiful from any angle, and it means both hanged folded or unfolded.

The Foldable Chair has a beautiful frame of wood and a seat of natural cane. The material used in caning chairs is derived from the peeled bark of the rattan vine. In the frame, it has a pair of wooden handles. The seat use cane. The wooden handles intersect in a natural way with the cane seat and serve at the same time as hand-rests, creating a fluid and dynamic effect.

Elegant, and modern, the Foldable Chair works beautifully functionally and aesthetically. Due to its scissors shape, while is unfolded, some consider it as a direct inheritance of the Barcelona Chair by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
